Marcia Wallace, The Voice of “The Simpsons” Edna Krabappel Has Died
Marcia Karen Wallace, the voice of Edna Krabappel on “The Simpsons”, passed away yesterday due to complications from breast cancer.
Wallace was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1985. She received the Gilda Radner Courage Award in 2007 for her efforts to educate others on the importance of early cancer detection.
Executive Producer Al Jean has released a statement on behalf of The Simpsons:
I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace. She was beloved by all at “The Simpsons” and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character.
Earlier we had discussed a potential storyline in which a character passed away. This was not Marcia’s Edna Krabappel. Marcia’s passing is unrelated and again, a terrible loss for all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
After 25 years of watching The Simpsons, it won’t be the same without that iconic Krabappel laugh.
Once I realized she was the voice of Mrs. Krabappel, I got really sad. :(
